English Patient: Working Out

Submitted by Wesley Lau

Setting: In a game of Charoodles charades, Brother D was vigorously doing the motion of working out, doing a biceps curl.

"Pumping iron!" "Working out!" "Iron man!" "Dumbbell!" "Biceps curl!"

In vain, they guessed until the time ran out. Afterwards, they asked the obvious question: "Man, what was it?"

To which Brother D responded with exasperation, "Curling iron!"

Every time I play Charades, I can't but help recall this incident--a mixture of shock, frustration, and absolute hilarity.

Personally, I think Brother D's interpretation of this phrase is at least as sane, if not more so, than the truth. I mean, placing an extremely hot piece of metal anywhere near my head has never seemed like a particularly good idea to me.
