The Worst Verse Recitation Ever

Gracepoint verse resuscitation

Many years ago, Kevan Ho's class did an Easter verse recitation, during which many Bible verses were slaughtered.  The tension and stress of forgetting had a contagious effect, where every single person up on the stage started to completely forget major chunks of the text, and they just started to make things up - causing many people in the audience to look down and pray.

We at Gracepoint refer to that event as our verse resuscitation.

The demotivator above was made to commemorate that day of prayer.

i was there... mixed feelings of sadness, pity and humor. never felt it before at once like that, and never again since.

i was there as well...i remember people looking at each other in the audience in disbelief, and some even trying hard to suppress their laughter...i remember bowing my head, closing my eyes and praying "God help them"...that day changed my view of verse recitation forever

I wasn't there but I want to know what these verses were!

The verses were from famous passages of the Bible like Isaiah 53 (which John Ko slaughtered - like saying how men were smitten by God). A lot of the passages got contorted to a point where we couldn't recognize where they were from anymore, especially when Kevan stopped trying and just started to make things up.

whew-wee! i thought i had erased that infamous moment from my memory, but this posting has rehashed a lot of mixed emotions out of me. our church used to have many verse recitations that blessed our congregation, but since that dreadful day i think others have been scared off to volunteer, lest something like this happen to them. seems like we've left it up to joyland during JCC to uplift our spirits with memorized scripture. =)

That was my very first Sunday Worship service, ever. I was not Christian at the time, and I remember being invited to come to church that morning because it was a very special occasion. Although I had never been to church before, everything seemed fine and normal until I saw these guys walk up to the front. A few minutes into the verse resuscitation, even I knew something was going wrong. Although I had never heard many of those Bible verses, they just didn't sound like the kind of stuff I had read before. The tension in the room was so thick, you could cut it with a knife. Well, it was tense until Pastor Ed Kang busted up laughing in the front row. Then it was hilarious.

i was sitting in the second row, and this is up there as one of the times i prayed the hardest (aside from urgent medical situations).

I was in the pews at the time. I know it is funny now, but I remember at the time feeling confusion first, and then just fear. I don't know why, but for me this event was very very scary.
